Logo Design

1. Discuss what you thought about creating your logo.
I Had many different thoughts going on about this logo. I had a very similar assignment last semester but my logo was created digitally. This time I wanted to make it different. I had started a blog a few weeks ago and making a logo for it would really make it look professional!
2. Describe the process: creative thinking skills and ideas you used in the logo creation.
It was kind of hard to come up with an idea. I knew I wanted the logo for my blog to be different yet original. I came up with a few different ideas. The Name of my blog is "BeerKittenz", its a self-proclaimed nick name that I've had for years because it describes my life so accurately.  I knew the logo had to involve the use of beer as well as kittens. I had the idea to wear cat ears, drink beer and take pictures of myself so I could then use those as a reference in drawing a self portrait. Then I looked through the pictures I had taken and drew a few thumb nails to map out how they would look on paper. I picked the one that I thought would be the best composition and I drew in out large. I colored it, wrote out "Beerkittenz" and used some effects on photobucket. The last and largest image below is the final logo
3. What was the most important discovery you made in the creation of your logo?
I know that this isn't a traditionally logo, Usually logos are simplified pictures not detailed drawings. I knew for my purpose that this is what I wanted to work with. But because of this I did run into difficulties such as scale and color.
4. What is the most important information you learned from watching the videos, powerpoint, and reading material  for this project? What is your opinion of the videos?
I found the videos to be very helpful. It was very interesting to see the whole process of creating a logo from the designing to the product itself.

A Trip to the albright knox

I hadn't even heard of the Albright Knox until my career as an art student at buffalo state. I live very close to new York city and have been to the Met and MoMa countless times. I've been to the Albright a handful of times last semester but it's always a treat. I decided to go to see the Monet exhibit!
So I grabbed my notebook and kept these questions in mind:

A.) Which artworks make an impact or impression on me? Why?
B.) Which artworks do I feel a connection with? Why?
C.) Which artworks would I like to know more about? Why?

A.)
I really enjoyed the work Les glaçons (The Ice Floes), 1880. Oil on canvas, 38 1/4 x 58 1/4 (97.2 x 147.3 cm).  It did make an impression on me. I think this is because when you are in front of these paintings in a way it feel like you are there, seeing what monet saw but over a century later.

 On the Bank of the Seine, Bennecourt, 1868. Oil on canvas, 32 1/8 x 39 5/8 inches (81.5 x 100.7 cm).
I would say this one also made an impression me because of the overall vibe I got from taking a minute and looking at this painting. it almost takes you to this lake and makes you want to swim in it

B.)

I was very excited to see Monets "Water Lilies" in person. This work especially, I remember learning about in art classes when I was younger and it was really nice to see it in physically in front of me.  It was painted 1908. Oil on canvas, 31 1/2 inches (80 cm) in diameter

I was really attracted to the piece "The Break up of ice" made in 1880. It uses cool colors and really has an icy feel to it.  I connected with it because I remember the day I visited the gallery it was cold and snowy. But to just look at this painting close up is invigorating.

C.)
Towpath at Argenteuil, winter 1875-76
Oil on canvas
23 5/8 x 39 3/8 inches (60 x 100 cm)
I really enjoyed this work, its the kind of piece that makes you ask questions. The one thing I found interesting is that this is the only Monet work that the Albright actually owns.

art making exploration #1

1. Discuss what you thought about creating the Value Scale and Color Wheel.

I have made color wheels and value scales in different mediums prior to this experience. I have found it very beneficial because I hadn't made either in quite some time. As an artist I use both color and black/white in my work. I enjoyed mixing the colors and using acrylic paint. Overall I enjoyed the making of both!

2. Which media did you enjoy working with the best and why?

I choose charcoal to do my value scale with, I have experience working with charcoal it's one of my favorite mediums. I enjoyed working with it because it is simple to manipulate and is very forgiving in terms of making mistakes. Given the option to use a graphite pencil I decided against it because it wouldn't give me as rich and dark of a value.

3. What was the most important discovery in the creation of these studies?

A discovery that I made in the creations was the importance of quality in terms of supplies. I unfortunately did not have access to high quality paint and I could feel the difference. I was still able to complete and get the full effect of the assignment. I would have been more satisfied with my end product had I used better paint.

4. What is the most important information you learned from watching the videos for this project? What is your opinion of the video?

I found this videos helpful to watch before beginning the project. I found "the truth" to be very interesting. It felt very hands on watching him mix the colors. It showed the mixing of the "primary" colors red, yellow and blue, and mixing them to make secondary colors. Then they countered it by showing the colors cyan, magenta and yellow mixed into secondary colors. The end product revealed a truer color wheel.

elements and principles

The process of the elements and principles project:
I had actually done this assignment last semester and since I got the hang of it my goal was to make this one even better! I wrote down all the elements and principles and tried to really understand each concept before attempting the photo process. But then i started taking pictures and the principles and elements were clicking. I was able to look at something and say " hey that's a good example of value!". I thought it would be hard living in a dorm on campus that all my pictures would be boring or repetitive but i was actually able to get a lot of variety. I tried to use images that were easily identified.

color effects

1)Describe Color and it's effects on emotions. Use the appropriate vocabulary of color in your posting

Colors can have a large effect on our emotions. Specifically Red, it can symbolize anger and danger, but it is also used to show joy and love. The color Yellow can show fearfulness and ill health, but it is also the color of a warm and sunny summer day. Context is the only real way to provide clues to emotional impact or a color's meaning.

2)What is a theoretical aspect of color that most intrigues/fascinates you? Why?

As an artist I truly appreciate all aspects of color. In fact I love working with color more then just black and white. My favorite theoretical aspect of color is intensity, to me that's what makes color stand out. It says so much in a piece of work and can vary dramatically.

3. In the Color video, what made the biggest impact on you in regards to color and it's effects on emotions?

I found the entire video very interesting and impactful. Ive always loved color and found it to be a huge importance in my life, after watching this video it really broke it down for me. Ive always felt different emotions about different colors but never truly understood how it worked.

4. In the Feelings video, what made the biggest impact on you in regards to color and it's effects on emotions?

I feel similar about this video as I did about the color video. but for me the biggest impact is the detail they went into about the modern idea that goes hand in hand with the creation of the modern world. It also went into similar things that the color video did. It gave me a lot of information and a better understanding of color and emotions which is very important for my future career as an art teacher.

module 2 aesthetics

1. For each video and article list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

Carta video- I learned a lot of different things in this video. most concepts I did already know but there were a few things I heard for the first time. the word "schematization" I hadn't heard until this video.
Philosophy of the arts video- again I was familiar with a lot of the concepts from prior classes. I knew about the different styles or art and artists but the philosophy concept taught me many different things I didn't know prior.
article- I found the article gave me a lot of insight about what we see, it gave me a different way to look at things. Because they broke down things that we don't even think about, like lines for example.

2. Which philosopher's theory on aesthetics do you feel is most important? Be sure to mention the philosopher's name, era (time in history), and contribution to the aesthetic theory in your response.
I thought all the theories mentioned made some very good points and very interesting ways of  seeing things. I found plato (4th century) view on aesthetics most important. Although I disagree completely  on his view on poetry not being art. He had one quote that I admired a lot " there is a beauty by which all things are beautiful". I enjoyed the concept he used about "ideas". The example they used in the video is when you draw a triangle you are not creating a triangle but a perfect copy of the idea of  a triangle.

3. What do you think about Changeux and Ramachandran scientific view of aesthetics and art? What was the most interesting fact you discovered from each speakers lecture?

I found them very interesting, Ramachandran more so. I learn many things from these lectures but most importantly I learned about vision and how we see things. He showed an image of a Dalmatian dog in black and white that just looks like a series of splotches. Our brain links the splotches together, then the brain is "groping for a solution" its trying to put together what it sees.
4.How do the videos and article relate to the readings in the text?
I had already seen the videos and read the articles before reading the text and I found it very helpful to have this knowledge prior. The references they made in the video coincide with the text from the book.

5.  What is your opinion of the films and article? How do they add depth to understanding of the topics in your reading in the text?
The Carta video, the first speaker was very hard to understand, not only the thick accent but the audio quality . The second speaker I enjoyed much more, he was humorous I could understand him and he used visuals to help his lectures. I liked the Philosophy of arts video and found it much more enjoyable then the first one. I learned a lot about the philosopher's and there philosophy's. I really enjoyed all the art they showed as well. I found the article to be very interesting, it reinforced the ideas from the text and from the videos.
